Celebrate Data Privacy Week and Win Great Prizes

With every step tracked on your smartphone fitness app to the miles driven in your car, your personal data is collected every day.

Data Privacy Week 2023Join us Jan. 22-28 for Data Privacy Week to learn ways to protect your data privacy as well as safeguard university data. Emami-Naeini will unlock the ins and outs of “Transparency in Smart Devices” on Friday, Jan. 27 from 10-11 a.m. She will also discuss her research work in designing a privacy label for smart devices. Other planned events include:

Data Management Framework: What’s It All About?

  • Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 10-11 a.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 26 from 1-2 p.m.

Did you know that a Social Security number, driver’s license and date of birth are each classified as a different level of sensitive data at NC State? The university created the Data Management Framework (DMF) to help communicate the different levels of data — green, yellow, red and purple. Guided by industry best practices, Elizabeth Cole-Walker of OIT Security and Compliance will explain why the DMF was created and how it protects you and the university. This learning lab will answer your questions about campus data, technical issues or anything else that may affect your work with sensitive data and how to Keep IT Private!
